The Young Filipino Internet User Report 2007 findings show that research, social networking, and gaming are primary reasons why they use the Internet.
375 Internet users from Metro Manila and nearby provinces were randomly surveyed, face-to-face, from March to June 2007 to come up with this report. 89% of respondents are below 25 years old and mostly found in Internet cafes.
Highlights of the report as follows:
38% of respondents cited that research is still the primary reason why they go online. For the first time in 7 years of survey activities by DigitalFilipino.com, we’ve seen social networking and gaming as 2nd and 3rd reasons that motivates young Internet users to go online.
Despite having computers at home (57%), the Internet cafe gains strength as the primary Internet access point driven by social networking and gaming activities by the young Filipino Internet user.
With cost of the Internet going down in Internet cafes, prepaid dial-up, and home DSL, young Internet users spend an average of 350 pesos per month to gain access.
75% of respondents met are active online gamers. More than half play multi-player online games. 40% cite RAN Online as the game most played today.
The Internet cafe remains as the most popular access point especially among young Filipino Internet users.
57% of respondents have computers at home.
The average young Internet user goes online at least 12 hours a week
Friendster is the most popular website in this age group.
