Where is the Filipino IT Talent? Draft 1 (Quezon City IT Schools Directory)
In 2001, we published an article in DigitalFilipino.com, “Where is the Filipino IT Talent?” This article was inspired when I met companies like Bigfoot.com, among others, looking for a possible location where one can base an office in the Philippines, where there’s enough manpower resource that can be hired within the area. The intent of this directory is to assist companies, aiming for IT students, in making direct contact to them. This report will be regularly updated as more and more cities will be added in the weeks to come.
In our initial study, there are 184 colleges and universities in Metro Manila with IT courses. The city of Manila and Quezon City stands out where more than half of these schools can be found.
Quezon City is dubbed as the ICT capital of the Philippines. The city has a population of 2.17 million and boast of a workforce of nearly 1 million. 32% of its population is below 15 years old.
Numerous IT companies offering software development, animation, call center, business process outsourcing, hardware sales, among others, can be found here. They are a portion of the 55,000 business establishments in the city.
This huge number of establishments is also the reason why Quezon City attracts workers from nearby cities and provinces. Its workforce is not sufficient to meet the manpower demand of these establishments.
There are 45 schools in Quezon City offering a wide variety of IT courses. It is the 2nd city within the National Capital region, having the highest number of schools offering IT courses.
